International contest for design professionals and amateurs, as well as students and graduates of art schools. The contest is originated and organised by the Wooden Story company, while its first edition takes place in 2021.

The main idea of Pure Design Contest, above all, is to create an opportunity for designers to enter the world market – the winning projects will be presented at the most prestigious furniture fairs in the world.

About

“A child’s place in public space – an inclusive table and chair for learning and playing”

The goal is to design a piece of furniture and/or a set of furniture for children, produced in the spirit of Wooden Story’s ecological philosophy.

The design should reflect an idea for a creative and inclusive work space for children, including children with disabilities, whether sensory or motor, or both. It is to be a piece of furniture that provides a comfortable place both for learning and creative play.

Wooden Story is a family manufacture creating wooden crafted toys and kids furniture. Sorrounded by beautiful forests of polish Beskidy mountains they take inspiration from nature. According to their motto “Inspired by nature, created by us…”, their hand-made toys are made from FSC certified timber. Smell of botanical oils and beeswax brings piece of forests into the domesticity of your home.

Jury

Bovska

Bovska is a graphic artist graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and a musician educated at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. She designs and illustrates various forms of applied graphics such as books, posters, covers, cd albums, murals and many others. The artist has 4 studio albums to her credit and has been nominated for Fryderyki award, MTV Music Awards and has performed at the most prominent Polish festivals.

Luca Fois

He studied philosophy.
For a long time he had been working for big global brand as a product and games designer-maker, with wood as a main material. He was intensively committed to planning and managing important communication projects in the design and territorial enhancement fields, both in Italy and abroad. Among others currently, he works as a creative advisor. He is also a proffesor at Politecnico di Milano. He believes that design for Kids & Toys is the mosts Strategic Design: best children will become better citizen, and better citizen will build a better society, and a better society will better respect the natural environment.

MICHAŁ PIERNIKOWSKI

Director of the Łodź Design Festival. Initiated and co-organized several projects related to creative industries, such as: make me! competition, conferences and BusinessUP. He is a co-creator of the Art Incubator, the Łódź Art Center foundation and Fotofestiwal. As a member of a team he is involved in popularizing broadly understood responsible design in Łódź. He is also a winner of the Annual Award of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage in the Design. category.

Paweł Mikosz

The graduate of the Faculty of Industrial Forms of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and a lecturer/adjunct professor at the Faculty of Industrial Forms of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow in the Model Design Studio. He is also a lecturer at Stanislaw Staszic Academy of Mining and Metallurgy in Krakow in the Humanities Faculty. In his designs he strives to respond to user’s needs through the prism of utilitarian, cultural and social problems. The designer places the human being as the focal and critivcal point of the design process, a source and purpose for all design activities he undertakes.

Bartosz Mucha

He is a 2D and 3D designer. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and at ESAG in Paris, he pursued a doctorate in design at the Faculty of Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Creator of The POOR design (Poorex) project, which has resulted in approximately 200 concepts of everyday objects, shown at numerous international exhibitions. He runs a para-architectural activity - Pararch, which aims at exploring the issue of home, shelter as well as accommodation.Recently he has been working on the Poorex face project which focuses on a turn towards nature and craft. Currently, he is employed at the School of Form at SWPS University in Warsaw.

CHRISTIAN WATSON

Creator of the 1924us - a petite branding agency dedicated to preserving the practices of early 1900's in relevant fields of expertise: photography, branding, writing, design, and archiving. Founded in the fall of 2009, 1924us has since branded for over two hundred companies, creating visual identities through any means of story-telling possible. Designers draw every detail mostly by hand, no computers are used in this process.

TABLES + CHAIR SET Designer: Patrycja Badura

The main idea behind the table's concept was to keep it already ready to use by every child. Without the necessity of manually adjust it to the needs of children with disabilities. Toys and drawing materials are supposed to be kept in colourful, fabric sacks, placed below the table. The use of various fabric allows for freedom of personalisation.

TABLES + CHAIR SET “PLACE IT!” Designer: Victoria Sarria Braulio Guttierez

"Place it" is a set of two tables, a stool, a two-children bench, and a set of 10 different modules. The modules have different shapes are designed to rock freely to explore movement and balance. Some of them can be reached from under
and above, they can be used as drawing templates as well. Two heights guarantee good access for kids with disabilities.

Inspiracją projektu były grafy przedstawiające teorię zbiorów matematycznych. Stolik składa się z trzech blatów o różnych kształtach, wysokościach i rozmiarach. Dzięki temu rozwiązaniu dzieci w wieku od 3 do 8 lat, będące na różnym etapie rozwoju, mogą bawić się razem w tym samym miejscu. Dzieci mogą do niego podejść i używać go z każdej strony siedząc lub stojąc. Umożliwia to na swobodne użytkowanie mebla również przez dzieci z niepełnosprawnościami.
